Blog post #4 Graffiti in latinoamerican countries

Each latinoamerican country uses the graffiti as a way to protest against politics, social problems and more, also they could tell us information about past facts happened in the country. The graffiti has being strongly used since 10 years ago, but the graffiti also can be used as a way of art to give color to something in that concrete jungle. The graffiti topics generally are about politics, to express disagreement or actual problems, or simply art. The graffiti is ilegal but many people don't take care about that, also the artist can ask for a permission to paint it legally.

Thai's mexican gangs and cultural appropriation

After read the article and watch the video, I could see how a group of people try to copy another culture arguing that they look great and their style fits to their climate. This is an example of cultural appropriation where people thinks that certain manners from another culture are great and they copy them supperficially, even without knowing anything about them. This isn't different from those subcultures like the emos, where people only believe that being emo is just wear black clothes, long hair and appear to be sad for everything.

In the video I learned that those "gangsters" subcultures from Thailand and Mexico have the same structures and basically do the same things when they are in free time. The mainly differences between them are that Thais don't do anything illegal and are good persons with jobs and professional careers. They only use the concept of brotherhood, also they see the gang as a kind of "club" where different people share the same interests and they could leave from the gang in any moment, differently from the mexican gangs. Also they have in common things like having tattoos, costumes like rap and wearing style from the true mexican gangs.

Opinion about afro-Colombian racism nowadays

First of all, that video was uploaded like 7 years ago, so it’s a little outdated. Nowadays the racial discrimination against afro-Colombians has decreased significantly, but it still exists. We can see afro-Colombian people occupying higher charges in politics, sports and have more access to education. There are a lot of examples of this like black soccer players in Europe like Ramos, Jackson, Sanchez and more players. Things that never happened before to afro-Colombian people, but discrimination stills exist at work, streets and at the school by kids. The Colombian people are very intolerant to each other and according to me one cause of the decrease of racism is the discrimination against gay people which it’s more controversial and people “like” to focus on that.
